In an effort to maintain and deepen the strong relationship between Indonesia and the People's Republic of China, the Chinese Embassy in Jakarta—through the Ministry of Youth and Sports—invited 27 young people from various sectors to visit Beijing and Tianjin from May 22 to 29, 2024.

This visit aimed to strengthen cooperation in science and technology innovation, education, culture, tourism, and youth development. The Indonesian delegation was composed of representatives from three sectors: government, civil society organizations, and universities.

The government was represented by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, and the Presidential Staff Office. Civil society organizations were represented by Pijar Foundation and ID Next Leader. University representatives included lecturers and students from Universitas Indonesia, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Bandung Institute of Technology, Binus University Jakarta, and Nanyang Technological University.

Hasintya Saraswati, Special Staff for Innovation Acceleration at the Ministry of Youth and Sports, stated that visits to Tianjin Sport University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Tianjin Steel Group Co., China Energy Construction Group Co., and Huawei Beijing certainly inspired the entire delegation about the importance of a strong education system and the utilization of technology.

“I believe that this visit gave the entire delegation new knowledge and imagination—that there are still many great things young people can do to advance Indonesia,” said Hasintya.

This sentiment was echoed by Salman Alfarisi Putra, a student delegate from Universitas Gadjah Mada. He mentioned that the new experiences gained through this program further motivated him to take on a greater role for Indonesia.

“For me, this experience was truly valuable because it changed many of my perspectives and inspired me to learn many new things. I hope programs like this continue so that more young Indonesians can gain experience and be inspired by the progress of other countries,” said Salman.

Xu Yunyu, a representative from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, expressed hope that this initiative would help explore the potential for cooperation between the two countries in youth, sports, and culture.

“I would like to thank the Ministry of Youth and Sports and all delegation representatives for their collaboration in making this program a success. I hope this program can be held regularly each year, involving even more delegates,” concluded Xu Yunyu.
